Shri LK Advani HM, Shri Vidyasagar Rao, MOS, Shri Dipendra Pathak, IPS, 1st Commandant of this Bn
India Reserve Battalion, Lakshadweep, Daman & Diu and Dadra & Nagar Haveli was sanctioned in the year 1996 by Government Of India order for Union territory of Lakshadweep and later on this Battalion was equally shared
among the UT of Lakshadwee, UT of Daman & Diu and UT of Dadra and Nagar Haveli at the ratio of 1/3rd in each UTs. The 50 % of the strength of this battalion has been recruited form UT of Lakshadweep and the remaining 50 % from UTs of Daman & Diu and Dadra & Nagar Haveli. The Administrative headquarter is located at Kavarrati, Capital island of UT of Lakshdweep and and two rear headquarters one is located at Kochi and another at Silvassa, the capital city of Dadra and Nagar Haveli. The Commandant who is SSP rank IPS officer from AGMU cadre is head this battalion.
After completion of Recruitment and training of the officers and 1st &2nd batch constables, the battalion was dedicated to the nation on 16 Dec 2000 by Shri LK Advani the then Hon'ble Hone Minister Shri. L K Advani at IRBn Camp Mota Randha, UT of DNH.
